Some of you may recognise Pieter from YouTube. Pieter was a veterinarian when he first started learning about finance. He realised that, while he knew a lot about medicine, he didn’t know too much about managing money, so he decided to learn. That curiosity led to an educational YouTube channel, Money Marx, and ultimately a new career as a financial planner. He now holds a Higher Certificate and an Advanced Certificate in Financial Planning and is in the process of completing his Post Grad. He was included in Citywire’s list of Top 50 Independent Financial Advisers in South Africa in 2025.

For Pieter, the most rewarding part of financial planning is using cashflow modelling to help people visualise how small decisions, habits and trade-offs today could impact their lives decades into the future. "A financial plan is not static, and a solution to a financial problem is not linear," he says. "I find it rewarding to help clients breathe life into their financial plans, and to serve as their thinking and accountability partner to help them reach their financial goals."
